High1 // January 9, 2019

Itinerary for January 8-9

1) Travel to Pyeongtaek (Sanghyun's place)

- I thought it would take 3 hours from Gwangju to Pyeongtaek, but it actually took about two and a half hours to arrive

- From Pyeongtaek to Anjung by Sanghyun's car

2) Travel from Pyeongtaek to Seoul

- From Anjung Intercity Bus Terminal to Nambu Terminal by intercity bus (an hour and a half)

- A quick breakfast at Nambu Terminal

3) Seoul Nambu ~ Singohan ~ High1

- From Nambu Terminal to Singohan Terminal, 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours

- Singohan Terminal is located right in the middle between Sabuk and Gohan. (If it didn't serve both areas demand would be low, and building and operating it in just one area would create too much bias toward a particular area and could provoke resistance from the other, so it sits in the middle.)

- From Singohan Terminal to Gohan Station by taxi (base fare + 3,800 won)

- From Gohan Station to High1 (using High1's own shuttle)

4) Schedule after arriving at High1 Resort

- Safety training, equipment rental, free time, and lessons in the evening

5) Schedule after the first evening

- Chose a board, and practiced going down slowly while facing forward.

- On the first night the instructors asked if I'd like to have some chicken with them, so we ended up eating chicken; they said that when they watched me fall, they were struck by how I got up smiling with such a bright, innocent expression. I answered that it was true. I really just found those moments so enjoyable, and I wasn't upset or anything about falling.

- We talked briefly about finding simple, modest joys.

- When they asked if I'd ever tried writing, I answered that it's my dream for the future.

- On the second morning I fell while boarding. My lower back hurt so much -> I rested until the afternoon

- When evening came I put on a pain patch and started riding again. Because of the heat I couldn't feel the pain. Still, I was very tense.

- I went around looking for Sanghyun's lost phone, and in the end we found it. It was a relief.

- On the last morning I was so sleepy that I didn't go out and just rested. We returned the equipment, took a bus to Seoul, and from Seoul took another bus back to Gwangju. // We traveled to Seoul on the High1 connecting bus.

6) Cost

3 days of lift tickets (first evening ~ morning of day 3) + lodging + group meals provided within High1) = 21; transportation alone 36,000 + 45,000 / other meal costs roughly 15,000 /// total 30.

7) Reflections

- Next time I'll ski.

- I want to write, too.

- It was fun to talk with a friend until 3 a.m. for the first time in a while / any kind of conversation is really fun and stays with you.

- Thoughts that it would be nice to come all together.

- Thoughts that it would be nice to come on my own, too.
