In truth, many people, including myself, are run-of-the-mill people. These run-of-the-mill people each carry, little by little, a wish that someone would show interest in them. So in order to receive interest, 'run-of-the-mill me' must at the very least cultivate refinement, build charm, store up plenty of conversation topics, and show interest in others. When you express interest in someone, an ordinary person, because they wanted to receive such interest, tends to fiddle with the interest they've received and return it in kind, while there are few who try to rebuff it. So diligently building charm and giving to others is the only method—a method belonging to run-of-the-mill people alone—of making someone come to like you. But many people just wait, doing nothing in particular, for someone to appear. In truth, for such people there doesn't really seem to be any destined connection that will appear. This was the biggest thought I had while reading fortunes all day. The pity I feel as a fortune-teller was this.
